Taking screenshots on your iPhone or iPad can be incredibly useful for various purposes, such as capturing app moments, recording information from websites, or seeking technical support. This guide will walk you through the steps to take screenshots on iPhones and iPads with and without a Home button.
Taking a Screenshot on iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max:

- Locate the Side button (previously known as the Sleep/Wake button) on the right side of your device.
- Simultaneously press and hold the Side button and the Volume Up button on the left side of your device.
- Quickly release both buttons after pressing them.
You will see a brief preview of the screenshot in the lower left corner of the screen. At this point, you have two options:
- Option 1: Tap on the preview to access the Instant Markup interface. This interface allows you to add text, crop the screenshot, and highlight specific areas. If you need to make any edits, this is the time to do it.
- Option 2: Allow the preview to disappear on its own, which usually takes about five seconds. If you choose this option, the screenshot will be automatically saved to your Photos app without any edits.
Taking a Screenshot on iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone SE:
- Locate the Side button (previously known as the Sleep/Wake button) on the right side of your device.
- Simultaneously press and hold the Side button and the Home button (the round button on the front of the device) at the same time.
- Quickly release both buttons after pressing them.
As with the newer iPhone models, you will see a brief preview of the screenshot in the lower left corner of the screen. You can choose to tap on the preview for Instant Markup editing or let it disappear to save the screenshot as it is.
Where Are Screenshots Saved?

Once you have taken a screenshot on your iPhone or iPad, it will be automatically saved to your Photo library. To access your screenshots conveniently, the Photos app organizes them into a separate folder called “Screenshots.”
Now you can capture and save important moments, information, or troubleshooting details with ease using the screenshot feature on your iPhone or iPad. Whether you have a device with a Home button or not, the process is straightforward and can greatly enhance your productivity and communication.
